WI GROUP CAROLS AT ST LUKES HAWKINGE HOSTED BY HAWKINGE, ACRISE & PADDLESWORTH WI

By Linda Barnes

This proved to be a splendid occasion with over seventy members attending from the surrounding institutes in our group.

This comprises of Alkham, Capel-le-Ferne, Elms Vale & Maxton, River, Temple Ewell, Whitfield, Whitfield Evening and ourselves.

It was certainly a marathon for carols with ten of our favourites being sung, so poignant yet oddly stirring; a nice start for this advent period. I thought it a rather nice touch that we were asked to sit through the quieter, gentler ones.

Topical poems from Rudyard Kipling and John Betjeman were read and the Temple Ewell choir sang two lovely arrangements to us.

Standing in for Fr Stewart was Rev John Coleman, who seamlessly joined everything together and who gave a very thought provoking address, our thanks go to him.

We were very fortunate to have Irene Preston play both the organ and the accompaniment for the choir and as usual she did a wonderful job, many thanks go to her.

Coffee and mince pies were served and this gave a marvellous opportunity to catch up with friends and wish everyone a Happy Christmas.
