HAWKINGE, ACRISE & PADDLESWORTH WI

December is a happy meeting with our thoughts turning towards Christmas; after rather a lot of business our speaker Mr Paul Harris gave a wonderful talk on the "History of Pantomime". Extremely topical you may remark! He not only informed us of the way pantomime came about but regaled us with some wonderful gossip about celebrities he has worked with over the years. 

Paul has played either a Dame or an ugly sister in pantomime for twenty five years and can be heard on Radio Kent between 6 and 10am on Saturday mornings. I think we could all have listened to him for much longer but the tea urn was boiling and so it was time for a much needed cuppa and a slice of Hattie’s fruit cake. 

Earlier June Moore had actually gone out to the kitchen to attend to said boiler, Paul could not resist this golden opportunity to ad lib in true panto style and some wonderful repartee followed! 

After tea the ladies grappled with twelve anagrams all to do with – yes you’ve guessed it "Christmas". Our guest Barbara won this quiz and the monthly competition for a Hand Made Pantomime Poster was won by Carole Seabrook.

Our next meeting is on January 3, 2pm in the Village Hall when we will all enjoy (oh yes you will!) a Beetle Drive and New Year celebrations. The monthly competition is a Home Made Festive Hat.
