MORE HEAVY SNOW PREDICTED

Heavy snow covers East Kent

Hawkinge residents were out on their sledges and building snowmen after they awoke to a 12 cm thick blanket of snow.

But although many people are still on their Christmas break, some had to man snow ploughs to clear many roads in East Kent, with up to 5 inches falling in the worst hit areas.

The Channel Tunnel was forced to close, and the London-bound carriageway of the M20 was shut at junction 13 during the day.

Motorists are warned to take extra care with ice set to cover the whole of the county tonight with temperatures dropping to minus 5C.

The A20 and A2 into Dover were among routes into the port closed off following heavy snow showers during Tuesday (27 December) evening.

More snowfall, up to 15cm deep, was likely from East Sussex to Yorkshire, a Met Office spokeswoman said.
