TOP COAST ACCOLADE GOES TO WHITE CLIFFS

Dover's White Cliffs have been voted the most popular stretch of coastline in the UK.

Dover's famous white cliffs

The coast received 22% of votes in a National Trust (NT) poll to find the best-loved out of its 25 coastal sites.

Second place, some way behind the famous White Cliffs of Dover went to the Gower Peninsular in South Wales, with 13% of the votes

Thousands of members of the public as well as NT members voted by phone and text in the poll.

The vote was to raise money for the Neptune Coastline Campaign to help manage the nation's beaches, cliffs and coastal habitats.
