FOLKESTONE CAMERA CLUB 17th October 2005

Our new season has begun with a vengeance, with several new members joining us. We have so far had several interesting evenings including audio visuals, slide/documentary, a travelogue on Peru and a digital tutorial.

Last Monday our members gave a warm welcome to Mr Brian Kelvie, who returned to our club to judge our first slide competition of the season. Brian is a very experienced photographer and judge and he gave us very constructive comments on our entries.

The winners in each section were:-

MONOCHROME:-

David Hughes ‘Going round in circles’ 20

NOVICE:-

There were no entries in this section.

INTERMEDIATE:-

Muriel Hilliard ‘Daisies’

ADVANCED:-

David Hughes ‘Eyes of the Pilot’

MEDIUM FORMAT:-

Bryan Mewse ‘21st Century Executive.

For the first time we have also had a DIGITAL IMAGE competition as we have been lucky enough to have acquired an LCD Projector and Lap top computer with funds from the Awards For All Scheme. The results from this first competition (all winners with 20 points) were:-

FLIGHT  by   Bett Boreham

TREE LINED PATH  by   Dan Desboorough

CARDOON AND BEE  by   Melanie Chalk

RUDBECKIA  by   Dave Turner

BJ AND OLIVER  by   Dave Turner

QUAYSIDE K6   by   Bob Brisley LRPS

We had a large number of entries for the digital competition, which proves that this is the way forward and many of our members are finding it a challenge trying to understand and work on their computers using Photoshop.

As well as our usual Monday evening meetings we are now having monthly Practical evenings, Digital workshops and a monthly Audio Visual meeting. Our membership at the present time is approximately 60 but is continually growing, possibly with the increase in digital it has extended our field of expertise with this new technology.

Our meeting on 24th October will be our first Print Competition of the season and the following week a digitally projected presentation by Carol Fulton entitled ‘My Journey Through Photography’.

Visit our web site at www.folkestonecameraclub.co.uk where you can see all the above winners photographs and more.

Our meetings are held at the United Reform Community Hall, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone on Mondays at 7.45pm. New members are always welcome, if interested please phone Mrs Jenny Barraclough (Secretary) 01303 245399 or

e mail: jenny-bar@btconnect.com
