SELSTED'S £600,000 SPORTS HALL OPENS FOR BUSINESS

A new £600,000 sports hall at Selsted CE Primary School will be officially opened by Conservative Party Leader Michael Howard and Kent County Council Chairman Kent Tucker tomorrow (21 January).

The sports hall has been financed by Sport England's Space for Sport and the Arts scheme following a successful bid for funding by KCC's Sports Development Unit.

It features a badminton court-sized sports hall, shower block and changing rooms and an additional room to be used for pre-school, after-school and breakfast clubs for pupils. The hall will also be available for members of the local community to use.

At the opening Mr Howard will unveil a commemorative plaque in the hall and will then be presented with origami Japanese Peace Birds made by pupils. A series of performances by pupils will then follow including martial arts and a dance demonstration.

Kent Tucker said: "It is important to provide schoolchildren with the best possible facilities from an early age so this wonderful new sports hall will provide a huge boost to physical education at Selsted School. I hope it will be a valuable resource for the local community for many years to come."
