RESIDENTS ASKED FOR HELP IN CRIME FIGHTING STRATEGY

Following an audit of crime figures for 2001 to 2004 carried out by Dover council and Kent Police, local residents are being asked for their priorities to tackle crime over the next three years.

The results of the audit showed that Dover had a lower rate of crime than the national average, but that theft and burglary had risen.

Anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and violence against the person came highest in the types of crime committed.

Residents have until 25 January to make their views known.

Cllr Julie Rook, Cabinet Member for Citizenship, said: "Dover District is a safe place to live and work, but the fear of crime can be high and issues around crime and disorder and anti-social behaviour are key to the district. We are fully committed to working with our partners in the community to address these major issues which have a real impact on the quality of life in the district. We are delighted to have been able to work together on the Crime and Disorder Audit and we hope as many people as possible will take the chance to comment on it."

Sgt Guy Thompson said: "This is a chance for those who live in the district to give their views on what matters to them."
