MARINA EXPANDS AS DEMAND IS BUOYANT

Dover Marina saw a record number of boats berthed in 2004 and the number of nights visitors reached a three year high.

The success of the 400-berth marina will see the operators, Dover Harbour Board, invest in 12 new pontoon berths during the winter and increase the capacity of the boatyard by over 30 per cent.

During 2004 the number of berth holders reached an all-time high of nearly 280 and the number of nights visiting boats stayed totalled 9,550. It is estimated visitors spent in the region of £500,000 at the county’s tourist attractions and in local shops and restaurants.

“Dover Marina makes a notable contribution to the local economy, said the port’s head of commercial and marketing Kate O’Hara.

“It has a superb location with excellent road links from London and the Home Counties serving both resident berth holders and visitors who want to spend a little time ashore exploring the Garden of England.

The sheltered marina beneath the famous White Cliffs is particularly popular with Belgian and Dutch yachtsmen.
