COMMUNITY CENTRE ANSWERS CRITICISM

The Hawkinge Community Centre has issued a press statement regarding the events on 20 December 2004.

PRESS RELEASE

On the evening of December 2004 an incident arose at the Hawkinge Community Centre, whereby one of the clubs using the facilities failed to comply with the agreed terms of hiring and failed to vacate the premises in a timely fashion. 

To date in order to keep access costs to an absolute minimum we work together with Club Organisers to share the supervision role, however in this case the member of the Community Centre staff was unsupported with over 50 club visitors left throughout the Centre. 

In order to re-establish control of the premses be acted in accordance with his duties and secured the building 45 minutes beyond the allotted time. As a result an unfortunate incident occurred which resulted in a number of third parties being inconvenienced for which the Trustees of the Centre reaffirm the Management apologies, and had made access to the Centre available first thing the next day for the recovery of equipment that still remained within the building.

The Trustees unreservedly, but regretfully must place the well being of users, staff and the security of the building and its contents above all else and uphold the action taken by the members of staff and as a Charitable trust we ensure that we uphold the principles and objectives of the Centre to the benefit of all residents."
