AGE CONCERN PULL THE PLUG ON HAZARDOUS BLANKETS

New figures released by Age concern show that many older people are putting their lives in danger simply by switching their electric blankets o­n.

Electric blankets are a valuable source of warmth for many older people during winter but can be very dangerous if worn,faulty,or simply used incorrectly.

Old or damaged blankets account for over 5,000 house fires a year and those aged over 65 years or over are at greatest risk,with six times the national average of fatal injuries.

As part of a winter warmth campaign match funded with KCC community safety department Age concern Folkstone are running a replacement project.

People over 60+ living within Hawkinge can phone Age concern Folkstone to make an appointment to have their old electric blanket exchanged for new.
