VOICE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

A  partnership  to bring together everyone working with young people in the district has been welcomed by Dover District Council's Cabinet.

The Dover District Youth Strategy has been prepared by the Dover Youth Advisory Group, which is made up of a range of Local Authority and voluntary agency representatives working with young people. It was recommended for approval by Cabinet on Monday (20 December), and will go to Scrutiny on 17 January and Full Council on 19 January.

The strategy follows an earlier draft which was submitted in July, will be published in February 2005.

It covers a number of key issues including: facilities for young people; a voice for young people; crime and anti-social behaviour; access to information and advice; promoting health; and understanding and respect. It aims to encourage working in partnership 'to improve the quality of life of all young people in the district and to encourage their full participation and inclusion in the lives of the community.'

Cllr Mrs Julie Rook, Cabinet Member for Citizenship, said: "This is the first formal Youth Strategy for the Dover District, having been identified as a target project in the Dover District Community Strategy. It is vital that young people are given a voice in the community and that we continue to work to include them in planning for the future of the district. We welcome the strategy and are delighted to be supporting this important work."

For more information, or for copies of the strategy upon publication, please log onto the Council website at www.dover.gov.uk or contact Kelly Grossmith on (01304) 872450.
